Indian Veterinarians: Silent Warriors
India is a country of paradoxes. Sweet though:)
The country has its lifeline oozing through its rural populace, the major chunk of the revenue coming from agriculture and its allied sectors.
India interestingly is rated first in milk production, 5th in egg production and below 10th in meat production and exports. That's humungous achievement, considering that the facilities in our country are well below those provided by developed nations.
Cheers to agriculture. Well, good! Let me give, three cheers to the fraternity. Everything's as good as it goes!
But can we spare a thought to the doctors who assidiously toil day and night, helping the rural tend their maimed and sick animals thereby playing a pivotal role in the growth of the Indian livestock economy. These doctors: as the world calls them veterinarians have a mighty say in taking care of the ivestock that give so much to the Indian economy.
Yet, this fraternity is the one which is yet to get its pride in place in the language of respectability.
India would not have seen the agricultural revolution, if there were no veterinarians to take the burden of keeping the livestock hail and sturdy so that they could toil the fields and yield better harvests for the dawn of a prosperous India.
The above statement does not qualify to the fact that there were other professionals too who helped India realise the dream of a prosperous nation, but that the veterinarians have not been given their pride of place in India is what is the moot point.
Next time, you see or interact with a vet feel proud that he has been a part of the flourishing India that resides in its 6,00,000 villages!
